Tier 2 Canada Research Chair (CRC) – Sustainable Energy Systems Modelling 53 views

The Faculty of Applied Sciences at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Sustainable Energy Systems Modelling. This is an appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level, with a home appointment in any of the Schools of Mechatronic Systems Engineering, Engineering Science, or Computing Science. A joint appointment across schools or faculties is also possible. Sustainable Energy Engineering is a strategic priority of SFU; this CRC would complement a newly created academic program in Sustainable Energy Engineering, as well as other chairs in related areas.

We are seeking a chair-holder with a prominent international profile and an excellent record of accomplishment in research, teaching and training of highly-qualified personnel (HQP). SFU requires a Ph.D. in Engineering or a closely related discipline, as well as eligibility to register as a professional engineer in British Columbia. The successful candidate would have a well-established funding record from national or international funding agencies for Sustainable Energy Engineering Modelling. An attractive remuneration package and start-up grant will be offered to the successful candidate.

This position is contingent upon the applicant receiving a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e. candidate must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, including maternity leave, extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Canada Research Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process; please see CRC website for eligibility details or contact SFU’s Major Project’s Office. The position is tenable for five years and is renewable once. Please review the initial appointment and chair renewal details of the CRC Program.

To apply, provide a full curriculum vitae with details of research, teaching and HQP training, scholarly record, funding and collaborations, a 1-2 page research proposal, and the names and email addresses of six referees. Submit all applications here.

As part of the application process, applicants are invited to complete an equity survey. This survey is voluntary and anonymous, and not affiliated with the application process. The purpose of collecting this data is to evaluate the diversity of the applicant pool and improve opportunities for designated equity group members.

SFU is an institution whose strength is based on our shared commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Diversity is an underlying principle of our Strategic Vision, which pledges SFU to “foster a culture of inclusion and mutual respect, celebrating the diversity reflected among its students, faculty, staff, and our community.” SFU is committed to ensuring that no individual is denied access to employment opportunities for reasons unrelated to ability or qualifications. Consistent with this principle, SFU will advance the interests of underrepresented members of the work force, specifically Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, visible minorities, and women; embrace gender and sexual diversity; ensure that equal opportunity is afforded to all who seek employment at the University; and treat all employees equitably. Thus, candidates that belong to underrepresented groups in the Applied Sciences are particularly welcome to apply.

Under the authority of the University Act, personal information that is required by the University for Academic Appointment Competition will be collected. For further details see the Collection Notice.

The position is subject to final approval by the University Board of Governors and CRC Secretariat.

This competition will remain open until the position is filled. Review of applications will commence on March 5, 2018. Any enquiries may be directed to Dr. Eugene Fiume, Dean at fasdean@sfu.ca.
